Worldcoin has enabled everyone, verified or not, to reserve Worldcoin (WLD) tokens. The Worldcoin project announced on August 11 that users may now reserve their WLD tokens using the World App before authenticating their World ID.
Users have 12 months from the time of their reservation to visit the Orb and have their irises scanned in order to get their reserved WLD tokens.
The Worldcoin ID, Worldcoin App, and Worldcoin token (WLD) are the three main components of the Worldcoin initiative. Native WLD tokens are offered as incentive for users for submitting their iris scan as part of a biometric data-based identification system.
Regulatory Scrutiny
After three years of planning, on July 24 Worldcoin was finally released to the public. The goal of the project is to provide future humans with a worldwide database from which they can tell robots apart.
The project asserts that in the near future, artificial intelligence (AI) will become so pervasive that it will be impossible to discern genuine people from bots on the internet, leading to the widespread adoption of World ID as the standard ID system for humans to get access to online resources.
It has been likened to science fiction programs because of its utopian promises and proposed solutions. However, the project’s activities are now under scrutiny from a number of regulatory bodies. Concerns about the project’s data-gathering strategy led to its first suspension in Kenya. Moreover, several other countries have launched their independent investigations.
